The Solid Waste and Recycling Division oversees the collection of municipal garbage and recycled materials and ensures successful compliance with Township Ordinances and State Laws.

We have been taught the paper, metal, and #1 or #2 plastics recycling routine for so long that it can be difficult to know how to respond to the occasional item that does not fit easily into one of those categories.  At those moments, it is important to be creative and think outside the bin.  When an item no longer meets your needs or has reached the end of its useful life, a bit of careful consideration and research can go a long way toward diverting it from the landfill...

Introducing the My-Waste App!
Now you can look up any waste to find out if it can be recycled. You’ll be surprised what can go where. Use the My-Waste app for key information about what can be recycled in West Milford.

Key Programs
These programs are designed to help keep West Milford clean and beautiful and are funded by the Clean Communities Grant.

The West Milford Recycling Office works closely with the Recycling Advisory Committee.

The Recycling Advisory Committee, in conjunction with the Recycling Office, coordinates Beautification Day (roadside litter clean-up) as well as the Adopt-A-Road and Adopt-A-Spot programs.

Adopt-A-Road and Adopt-A-Spot participants will have a sign erected with the names of those maintaining the area noted.  It is requested that these areas be cleaned at least 6 times per year.  After the area is cleaned, participants contact the Recycling Office to have the litter bags removed.

If you would like more information on how you can help to keep West Milford clean and green by participating in the Adopt-A-Road, Adopt-A-Spot or Beautification Day programs, contact the West Milford Recycling office at 973-728-2724.  All volunteers receive gloves, bags and safety vests for cleaning up roadside litter.
