The West Milford Heritage Committee consists of a 17 member committee appointed by the local Governing Body.  The Committee meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 at the West Milford Museum, or virtually, via Zoom, when necessary.

Made up of volunteers from the community, the West Milford Heritage Committee was established by resolution in 1985 to plan and implement the Museum building’s restoration (former Town Hall and Annex), archive collections, and oversee the Museum operations. The West Milford Museum opened in 2000 following extensive renovations to the building and site, and is located at 1477 Union Valley Road, West Milford NJ 07480.

For more than three decades, the Heritage Committee collaborated with architects, contractors, professionals, and Township staff to implement plans for the building’s interior and exterior renovations.  The Committee continues to collect and archive artifacts, as well as offer displays of historic documents and exhibits representing various locations and events from the region.  The Heritage Committee also provides programs highlighting West Milford’s unique history.

Numerous fundraising events have been coordinated by the Heritage Committee to generate funds to supplement the renovations and to operate the Museum.  The largest and most successful ventures included the former annual tennis tournaments, supported and sponsored by many local businesses, organizations and individuals, providing funds for various capital improvement projects.
