The West Milford Museum
The Township of West Milford Heritage Committee is a 17 member advisory committee to the Township Council, including fifteen citizen members, one Council member and one staff member. The Committee was formed in 1985 for the purpose of preserving local history through the establishment of a Township museum. The Town Hall Annex building was designated as the museum site in the mid-1980's, and since that time the Heritage Committee members have supervised the renovation projects in the circa 1860's building, as well as volunteering to staff the museum on weekends and during special events. In addition to overseeing the museum business and maintenance, members prepare exhibits, collect and catalog artifacts, host lectures, seminars and other events, supervise student interns, and conduct special tours of the museum for local scouts, schools, and community organizations. The members also aid in research on historical events, host fund raisers including the annual tennis tournament, and coordinate the remaining renovation projects. The Heritage Committee usually holds its regular meetings on the second Tuesday of each month. For information about the Heritage Committee, please visit the museum on Saturdays, from 1 to 4, email at museum@westmilford.org, or call the museum at 973-728-1823 and leave a message.
