The Municipal Judge is a three-year appointment of the council and must be a member of the New Jersey State Bar.  Jurisdiction includes traffic violations, municipal ordinance violations, and minor criminal matters.  More severe criminal infractions are sent to the Superior Court in Paterson after a probable cause hearing.
